Davide Orlando (albegor)  > OnTheGo! > Handango Partner Summit 2005 in Miami - The Business Part (Eng)
The report of the exciting trip to Miami to attend the Handango Partner Summit 2005, the annual invitation-only meeting organized by Handango to get a glimpse into the incoming future of the mobile market, to confront face to face with developers and sponsors' staff from all over the world and most of all have fun together, because that's the great value added of these occasions, a unique chance to really mix business and pleasure in the best way possible.
I divided the whole report in two parts, this is the business part. ;)

Davide Orlando (albegor) > Clint, VP of Marketing. I already met him in Cannes at the 3GSM World Congress in February and I already did appreciate his enthusiasm for his work.
I heard he was talking about me and those were nice words. I'm not such a great speaker, especially in English, but I'm a good listener (I still rembember my Latin teacher told me that at the Lyceum) so I rarely miss these things. ;)
Davide Orlando (albegor) > Randy, in the Captain's Salon... where else, by the way? ;)
He's the only founder of Handango, he did it in 1999, he had the right idea, managed to hire some great staff and all went well until now, with even greater expectations for the future of course.
I rembember we talked about my city, Como and I told him Como is world renowned for silk processing, not certainly for software development and he told me with a malicious smile and the finger pointed "Not yet!". Eheh... we'll see if it could ever happen, who knows?
Davide Orlando (albegor) > A pic of the Sir Winston, we spent a really nice evening on it! :D
Davide Orlando (albegor) > The last presentations of the next morning. Outside the main conference hall there was a booth were you could test some new cool devices. I had the chance to use the HTC Universal with WM 5.0 and the HP Mobile Messenger thanks to Dan of the Microsoft staff.
Davide Orlando (albegor) > The whole Handango staff after the final greeting. Surprised
I've found more than one people surprised to see such a young and nice looking staff. Arthur, CEO of LDW software, a really cool guy, told me that and he even suggested that youth and a nice physical aspect often are not qualities going in good company with wisdom, so he supposed that you can't deal with the big guys of the mobile operators and have success if you don't look "wise". I only partially agree with that theory and the success of Handango in the last years is there to demonstrate the opposite, but hey, Arthur was a bit drunk that evening on the yacht when we met! :D
Another guy surprised by this pic was Matteo, one the engineers of the Centro Volta, the local research center I'm currently collaborating with, who wanted the pic to show to his colleagues the reality of the true American Business, certainly much different from the reality he has to confront with daily.
After all Handango has been recently ranked 24th among the top 50 Best Small & Medium Companies to Work for in America.
